In Kenya, Bright Futures works with its development partner, Dorcas Creation. With a strong focus on empowerment of women and girls, Dorcas Creation is an indigenous non-profit organization in Kenya, started in 2006 under the leadership of Trinity Fellowship Ministries and Director, Jan Thuo. The aim of the organization is to empower unemployed and vulnerable women and the project initially started in Marurui Jua Kali slum and has extended to Mathare North.
The project has positively impacted the lives of many hundreds of women and their households through self-help savings and production groups. Involvement in the groups has enabled women to develop new skills, create small business, save for important purchases (eg school fees / medical needs / property) and become more confident and resilient. The project also involves the operation of a tiny school at the Mathare North slum which is providing opportunity for early education for children living in deeply impoverished circumstances.
