Change is possible!
Education is transformative – it allows children to be full participants in their communities. It changes the lives of the lives of their family and the generations that follow them.
It was wonderful to hear from twin sisters Julia and Diana Keneally on their recent trip accompanying me to Bangalore City Mission. Julia is a senior executive at a disability service provider and Diana is a teacher specialising in Aboriginal education. Diana, in particular, was able to have valuable exchanges with the teaching staff at Sinclair’s around students who have suffered trauma. Julia was inspired by Jonathon’s leadership at BCM and the team has placed around him. Thanks Diana and Julia for giving your time so generously visiting BCM and coming out on a cold wet weeknight to share your experiences and inspire us.
If you would like to visit Bangalore City Mission as Diana and Julia have done, there is an opportunity to join regular visitors and helpers Gary & Deb Martin on their next visit in November/December. Please contact us if you would like to know more.
We also received an update from Jane Thuo and Grace Njenga at Dorcas Creation Kenya on the recent outbreak of violence in Kenya. It was clear that the work Dorcas is doing empowering young men and diverting them from crime is crucial to addressing the social problems that are at the root of the violence. Fortunately, the situation has subsided sufficiently for Dorcas work to resume. The next Friends of Bright Futures event will be Tuesday, 18 November at 7pm.
